Academician Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, FASc, P.En


Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali was appointed as Chairman of SIRIM Berhad on May 20, 2015. He was previously the Director-General of SIRIM, then known as Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (prior to its corporatisation) from 1989-1996.

Currently, Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali is also Chairman of UEM Group Berhad, UEM Sunrise Berhad, Linde Malaysia Holdings Berhad, Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) and Bangi Golf Berhad. He is also a member of the Board of Saudi-Malaysia Water & Electricity Company Limited and Alimtiaz Operation & Maintenance Company Limited, all based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He is currently the Joint-Chairman (Industry) of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and Chairman of UPM Holdings Sdn Bhd, SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd, Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and Malaysia Shoaiba Consortium Sdn Bhd.

Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin was previously the Executive Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) - the national power company (1996-2000), the Chairman of Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd (2001-2004), the Energy Commission of Malaysia (2009-2013), the President of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (2010-2016) and later the Chairman of PLUS Expressways International Berhad (2012 – February 2017).

An engineer by training, Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin graduated with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from King's College, University of London in 1973 and obtained his doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London in 1977. He did post-doctoral work in nuclear engineering at Oregon State University (1977-1978) and at Pennsylvania State University (1978).

He was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2000 and Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in 2008.  In 2009, he was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), the Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) in 2014 and in 2016 he was conferred with the Honorary Doctorate of Management Degree by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).

Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, a Senior Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, a Fellow of The Asean Federation of Engineering Organisations and a Fellow of the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology.

Currently, Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin is the Pro Chancellor of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and a member of the International Advisory Council of the University.  He is also a member of the Public-Private Partnerships under the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia and a member of the Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC).

Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UEM and The Nusajaya Natural Heritage Trust and a member of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Khazanah, Mahathir Science Award Foundation, and as an Ordinary Member of Sultan Mizan Antarctica Research Foundation. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), his alma mater.


Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani, FASc, FIEM 


Prof. Ahmad Fadzil, 58, graduated in 1983 from University of Essex, UK with a BSc (1st Class Hons) in Electronic Engineering, MSc in Telematics in 1984 and PhD in Image Processing in 1991 from the same university.

He started his academic career with Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1984 and later joined Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in 1997. In UTP, he was a Senior Professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) and a member of the University Senate and the University Management Committee. He was also the Director of the Centre for Intelligent Signal & Imaging Research, a research centre he founded in 2008 that has been accorded a Higher Institution Centre of Excellence status by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia in 2014. He was appointed as General Manager in Frontier Technology at the PETRONAS Research (2008-2010) and successfully secured funding of RM40M from the Petroleum Research Fund to establish R&D on renewable (biomass and solar) technologies.

Prof. Ahmad Fadzil has authored several books (Digital Signal Processing, USM Press, Surface Imaging for Biomedical Applications, CRC Press) and a monograph (Medical Imaging - Bringing Pixels to the Life Sciences, ASM Inaugural Lecture). He has published over 70 articles in peer reviewed journals (49 indexed SCOPUS and ISI) and over 130 articles in conference proceedings mainly in image analysis for biomedical applications. He has an H-Index of 17 and i10-index of 34 by Google Scholar, and RG score of 28.77. He holds several intellectual property rights (2 US patents, 1 India patent, 6 Malaysia patents, 9 copyrights, 1 software license) and won numerous awards for his work (27 invention awards; IENA, INNOVA, INPEX, BIS, MTE, ITEX) besides UTP Quality Day awards (13 for best researcher, top publications, leadership etc.). In 2012, he received four awards from IEEE Malaysia (Engineering, Medical and Biology Society). He is an active paper reviewer for many for ISI-indexed Journals and Scopus-indexed Conferences.

Prof. Ahmad Fadzil is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Sciences, Malaysia and also of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia. He is a member of National Professors Council, Malaysia. He has been a Professional Engineer registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia since 1994 and a Senior Member of the Institution of Electrical & Electronic Engineers Inc since 1998. In industry, he sits in Board of Directors of ViTrox Corporation Bhd., a public-listed R&D company that develops and manufactures machine vision systems. He is also a member of the Prince Court Medical Centre Kuala Lumpur Board of Directors.

Prof. Ahmad Fadzil teaches Signals & Systems and Digital Signal Processing courses at UTP. At UTP, he has supervised and successfully graduated 20 postgraduates (8 PhDs and 12 MSc), and completed 16 research projects as a Principal Investigator with external research grants of about RM7M (icl. 2 TechnoFund) and 2 international research grants (RM800K). He has established 12 research collaborations, 4 with international institutions. With his outstanding leadership capability in R&D, he was appointed as the first Director of Mission-oriented Research (MOR) Biomedical Technology in 2009 and the founding Head of CISIR, that has resulted in CISIR being accorded the HICOE status by MOE in 2014, securing a funding of RM9M over 3 years. Currently, he is a PI for 10 research grants worth nearly RM3M.

He was elected to the Institution of Engineers Malaysia Council (2001-2004) and served in various standing committees in particular the Accreditation Board and the Engineering Exams and Qualifications Committee. He was appointed by Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) to serve in the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) from 2006-2009 and helped steered Malaysia towards Washington Accord status. From 2008 – 2009, he was appointed to Engineering and Built Environment Accreditation Committee of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), the body that oversees and recommends accreditation status for tertiary programmes. He served in the committee for Pharmacy and Applied Sciences Cluster, National Professor Council (2013-2014).

He was the Academy of Sciences Malaysia’s representative to International Council for Science (ICSU), and a Member of ICSU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (2011-2013). He has served as in numerous research grant Evaluation Panels locally for MOE (FRGS/LRGS /ERGS) & MOSTI, and internationally for the National Science Centre Poland (Life Sciences grant), and the Scientific Advisory Council for the Reumafonds Dutch Arthritis Foundation. He also served as Thesis External Examiner to numerous universities locally (USM, MMU, UM, UTM) as well as overseas universities such as University of Burgundy, Nottingham University UK and Anna University India. In 2012, he was a Visiting Scholar - Erasmus Mundus Masters - at the Laboratoire Electronique, Informatique et Image (Le2i) UMR CNRS 6306, University of Burgundy France. He has given numerous talks (40) as Invited/Keynote Speaker in Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Korea, France, Taiwan and Japan.

He currently serves as the MQA Panel of Assessors for Electrical & Electronics Field and Engineering Accreditation Council, BEM Panel of Assessors, as External Examiner to several Engineering faculties namely Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). He is the Malaysia Node Head for the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF) based in Karolinska Institute, Sweden and a member of the INCF Governing Board since 2015.


Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar Hj. Yahaya

Pengarah (Director)

Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar Hj. Yahaya, 61, dilantik sebagai ahli Lembaga Pengarah SIRIM Berhad pada 22 Julai 2013.

Beliau berkelulusan ijazah Sarjana Muda Sastera (Kepujian) jurusan Psikologi/Sosiologi dari Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) (1983), Diploma Pengurusan Awam, INTAN (1985). Pada tahun 1993, beliau menerima Master of Arts in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, University of New Haven Connecticut, Amerika Syarikat dan seterusnya menerima Ijazah Kedoktoran (Psikologi Industri dan Organisasi), UKM pada tahun 2004.

Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Azhar memulakan kerjayanya sebagai Penolong Setiausaha, Kementerian Kebudayaan Belia & Sukan pada tahun 1983 dan seterusnya menjadi Penolong Pengarah, Bahagian Perkhidmatan di Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA) pada tahun 1986. Beliau kemudiannya berkhidmat sebagai Pegawai Psikologi dan Kaunseling, Unit Psikologi dan Kaunseling, JPA. Pada tahun 1998, beliau dilantik sebagai Pengarah Bahagian Psikologi, Biro Tatanegara Jabatan Perdana Menteri. Beliau kemudiannya berkhidmat sebagai Timbalan Pengarah Bahagian Perkhidmatan Psikologi, Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam pada 2003. Beliau meneruskan perkhidmatannya di bawah Bahagian Perkhidmatan Psikologi, JPA di antara tahun 2003 – 2011. Pada tahun 2011, beliau telah dilantik sebagai Timbalan Ketua Setiausaha (Pengurusan), Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia.

Beliau kini berkhidmat sebagai Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI) Malaysia sejak tahun 2016. Beliau mewakili MOSTI sebagai Ahli Ganti Pengarah Malaysian Technology Development Corporation Sdn. Bhd. dan Ahli Ganti Pengarah MIMOS Berhad.

Saji M K Raghavan


Saji Raghavan, 56, was appointed as a member of Board of Directors of SIRIM Berhad on 1 July 2015. He has a Mechanical Engineering Honours degree (B.E. (Hons) Mech.) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Ohio University.

In October 2014, he was appointed as Rolls-Royce’ Country Director for Malaysia and Brunei, where he is responsible for overseeing all of Rolls-Royce’s key business sector activities. Prior to that, Saji held various senior management positions during his 22 years with global power generation, grid and rail solutions company Alstom. He has held various local and regional positions which include Country President – Malaysia and Philippines. He had also served in companies which include ABB Power Generation Sdn Bhd (later known as ABB Alstom Power Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd and then known as ALSTOM Power Asic Pacific Sdn Bhd), Viking Engineering Sdn Bhd and Viking Dubai, UAE.

He currently sits on the National Energy Consultative Panel, the Energy Council of Malaysia committee, Powergen Asia Advisory Board and the APEC’s Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation committee.

Dato' Dr. Ir. Andy Seo Kian Haw


Dato’ Dr. Ir. Andy Seo Kian Haw, 61, was appointed as a member of Board of Directors of SIRIM Berhad on 1 July 2015. He graduated in Production Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire, UK. and subsequently obtained a Master in Business Administration majoring in General Management from the University of Hull, UK. He received an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from University of Hertfordshire, UK, and is an Honorary Fellow of the Association of ASEAN Fellow Engineers Organisation. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering and an ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Malaysia, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Management. He was appointed Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia in April 2012.

He began his career as a Production Engineer with Focus Para Wood Sdn Bhd in 1981, and proceeded through an illustrious career in various companies. In 1998, he was appointed Managing Director of KONE Malaysia; and later as President Director of PT. KONE Indo Elevator, Indonesia and Business Development Director of KONE Asia South, and Senior Advisor to KONE Malaysia.

He is also the Executive Chairman and Director of numerous companies respectively, a Member of Corporation of SMECORP Malaysia, PEMUDAH and Board Member of Malaysian Steel Institute under MITI. He is Vice President of Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, Vice President of Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Head Commissioner, ASEAN Engineering Register, ASEAN Federation of Engineering Associations, Deputy Chairman of the European Union-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Council Member of numerous associations such as the Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Malaysia, National Skill Development Council and Council Member & EXCO of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of KL & Selangor.



Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad


Datuk Mohd Nasir, 62, is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) United Kingdom and a Chartered Accountant with the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). He also holds a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He was the President of MIA from August 2011 to July 2013 and currently a Council Member of ACCA (UK).

His career started in 1979 as a Trainee Accountant with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). In January 1993 he joined Malaysia Transformer Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, (a subsidiary of TNB) as the Financial Controller and became the Chief Executive in June 1994. In January 2000 he moved to SPK Berhad as its Chief Executive Officer. On 1 June 2001 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad, a position he held until his retirement on 1 June 2011.

He is currently Independent Director/Chairman of Audit Committee of Bina Darulaman Berhad, MIMOS Berhad and SIRIM Berhad. He is also Independent Director/Member of Audit Committee of CIMB Group Holdings Berhad, CIMB Bank Berhad, Sumatec Resources Berhad and Prokhas Sdn Bhd besides being Director of CIMB Group Sdn Bhd, Chairman of UKM Holdings Sdn Bhd and Chairman of SIRIM Tech Venture Sdn Bhd. He has also been appointed as an independent non-executive director of Media Prima and Synchrosound Studio.

He is also a member of the Board of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Canselor UNITEN and the Listing Committee of Bursa Malaysia.



Hawariiah Abdul Wahid


Hawariiah Abdul Wahid, 35, was appointed as a member of Board of Directors of SIRIM Berhad on 1 July 2017. She holds a Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia and is currently undertaking ACCA in Advanced Financial Management.

She is currently the Principal Assistant Secretary, Government Investment Companies Division in the Ministry of Finance, responsible for MOF Inc. affairs and corporate strategic direction particularly on telecommunication, water and sewerage industries. She was also the Assistant Director, Implementation Coordination Unit, Prime Minister Department (2006 – MAC 2015), where she coordinated, monitored and evaluated the implementation and outcome of the Programme/Project Malaysia Five-Year Development Plan (RMLT) for Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Federal Territories, State of Sabah and Federal Territories.


Datuk Syed Hisham Syed Wazir

Datuk Syed Hisham Syed Wazir, 62, was appointed as a member of Board of Directors of SIRIM Berhad on 7 August 2017.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Plymouth University, UK and a Master in Business Administration from Ohio State University, USA. He started his career under DRB Hicom Group as a General Manager in Proton Corporations Sdn Bhd in 1995 and later became President/Chief Operating Officer at Honda Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. In 2003. He then held top management positions in numerous automative companies until he became the Group Managing Director of PuncakNiaga Holdings Berhad in November 2015 until his retirement.

Datuk Syed Hisham has held numerous Directorship in various industries such as UMW Holdings Berhad, UMW Oil & Gas Corporation Berhad, KYB-UMW Malaysia SdnBhd, UMW Oilfield International (M) SdnBhd, PERODUA Sales SdnBhd, MK Autocomponents Ltd and Toyota Capital Malaysia SdnBhd. He was also a member of various Audit Committees and Risk Management Committees throughout his career. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Motor Industry (FIMI), United Kingdom and has received accolades in the areas of value creation, human capital, automotive and governance.

Datuk Dr. Hafsah Hashim

Datuk (Dr.) Hafsah Hashim was appointed as a member of Board of Directors of SIRIM Berhad effective 15 February 2018. She holds a Bachelor in Applied Science from Science University of Malaysia and Masters in Business Administration from Aston University, United Kingdom.

She is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp. Malaysia) and has vast experience in the public sector administration and has served in several ministries including Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Primary Industries. She is also a Board Member of Yayasan Pembangunan Usahawan Terengganu, Penang Skills Development Centre, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Johor Corporation, Small Medium Enterprise Development Academy, Pusat Khidmat Pembangunan Usahawan YaPEIM, Board of Trustees of Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia and Board Member cum Advisor of Malaysia Economic Development Council. 

Datuk (Dr.) Hafsah Hashim also sits as Council Member and Advisory Panel of various councils and universities respectively such as PUNB Business Collaboration Council, Malaysian Academy of SME & Entrepreneurship Development and Johor Halal Park.

At the international level, she had initiated various collaborations and cooperations with other SME development agencies at bilateral level such as the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India, Office of SME Promotion of Thailand, Small and Medium Business Administration of Republic of Korea and Small and Medium Industry Development Organisation of Turkey.
