SIRIM INDUSTRY STANDARDS: AN ESSENTIAL TOOL FOR QUALITY CONTROL AND PRODUCT ACCEPTANCE

Standards launched in conjunction with National Quality Summit 2015

 

SHAH ALAM, May 13 - SIRIM today launches the SIRIM Industry Standards, an essential tool for quality control, facilitating product acceptance, organisational or industrial management as well as safeguarding the safety and health of the community.  

The SIRIM Industry Standards is part of SIRIM’s extensive effort to help industries and businesses to meet local and international requirements and practices.

The Standards are developed in accordance to SIRIM standardisation procedures, which are in line with international practices for appropriate notification of work programmes and participation of interested parties.

The SIRIM Industry Standards was launched by Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohd Diah in conjunction with the National Quality Summit 2015 here today. Also present were Secretary-General of MOSTI Dato Sri Dr. Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur, and President and Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad Dato’ Dr. Zainal Abidin Mohd Yusof.

“The Development of SIRIM Industry Standards proves SIRIM’s effort in supporting the industries by developing standards to cater for specific needs of the industry, association or organisation to provide best solutions for recurring problems, instead of ad-hoc solution,” he said.

To date, SIRIM, an agency under MOSTI, has developed several SIRIM Industry Standards which include:

Datuk Dr Abu Bakar also said that MOSTI has allocated RM372, 000 for SIRIM this year in order to assist SMEs in creating quality and innovative culture towards improving their processes and products. Currently, 50 SMEs are being assisted.  

“Giving greater emphasis on innovation, MOSTI provided funds and innovation support for start-ups and standards accreditation, transfer of new technology and facilitation of R&D products for commercialisation,” he said.

The National Quality Summit 2015 (NQS 2015), held from 13 to 14 May 2015, themed “Action 2015 - Imperative for Change” provides an opportunity to an organisation to explore in detail the importance of making changes through quality initiatives in order to sustain its competitiveness and facilitate global market penetration in the manufacturing, education and healthcare sectors.

The needs to inculcate Islamic requirements into the organisation's quality management practice and promotes good universal values as emphasised in MS 2300 Value-Based Management System are among important issues discussed at the summit organised by SIRIM Berhad and its subsidiaries, SIRIM QAS International and SIRIM Training Services.

SIRIM Berhad President & Chief Executive Dato’ Dr Zainal Abidin Mohd Yusof in his speech said SIRIM has established several programmes such as the Green 5S and Customer Service Management in order to assist organisations for a smooth transition process in managing change.

“SIRIM Training Services has introduced three Personnel Certification Schemes for practitioners in the field of quality. These are the Certified Quality Practitioner, Certified Quality Manager and Certified Lead Internal Auditor schemes,” he said.

To better equip quality practitioners and enhance human capital development, SIRIM is also collaborating with Open University Malaysia in offering a Masters in Quality Management for the latest tools and techniques in Quality & Best Practices.

The NQS 2015 participants include CEOs, Directors of Companies, Heads of Departments, Consultants and Quality practitioners who share current developments and best practices in quality in ensuring the relevance and sustainability of businesses. Former Minister of International Trade and Industry Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz delivered the keynote address on the first day of the summit.

The Summit is divided into five sessions with 20 papers presented by international and local speakers who are the icons of quality in their respective fields. The speakers are from well-established organisations such as Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), BP Healthcare Group, Hong Kong Quality Function Deployment Association, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia Productivity Corporation, Bermaz Motor Sdn. Bhd, KFC Holdings (Malaysia) Berhad, Putra Perdana Construction Sdn. Bhd., Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), International Islamic University Malaysia and the Employees Provident Fund.

STANDARD INDUSTRI SIRIM: PENTING BAGI KAWALAN KUALITI DAN PENERIMAAN PRODUK

Standard dilancarkan sempena Sidang Kemuncak Kualiti Kebangsaan 2015

 

SHAH ALAM, 13 Mei - SIRIM hari ini melancarkan Standard Industri SIRIM, suatu alat penting untuk kawalan kualiti, memudahkan penerimaan produk, pengurusan organisasi atau industri serta menjaga keselamatan dan kesihatan masyarakat.

Standard Industri SIRIM adalah sebahagian daripada usaha menyeluruh SIRIM untuk membantu industri dan perniagaan dalam memenuhi keperluan dan amalan tempatan dan antarabangsa.

Standard berkenaan dibangunkan mengikut prosedur penstandardan SIRIM, yang sejajar dengan amalan antarabangsa bagi pemakluman program kerja dan penyertaan pihak yang berkepentingan.

Standard Industri SIRIM telah dilancarkan oleh Timbalan Menteri Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI), Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohd Diah sempena Sidang Kemuncak Kualiti Kebangsaan 2015 di sini. Turut hadir ialah Presiden dan Ketua Eksekutif SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Dr Zainal Abidin Mohd Yusof.

"Pembangunan Standard Industri SIRIM membuktikan usaha SIRIM dalam menyokong industri dengan membangunkan standard dalam memenuhi keperluan khusus industri, persatuan atau organisasi untuk menyediakan penyelesaian terbaik bagi masalah berulang, dan bukannya penyelesaian ad-hoc," katanya.

Sehingga kini, SIRIM, sebuah agensi di bawah MOSTI, telah membangunkan beberapa Standard Industri SIRIM termasuk:• SIRIM 3: 2014, Kod amalan untuk pemasangan dan penyelenggaraan kipas siling• SIRIM 4: 2014, Amalan yang baik untuk melaksanakan pengurusan keselamatan pergi dan balik• SIRIM / DVS 1-1: 2012, Kebolehkesanan Produk Sarang Burung Boleh Dimakan (EBN): Bahagian 1 - Keperluan• SIRIM / DVS 1-2: 2012, Kebolehkesanan Produk Sarang Burung Boleh Dimakan (EBN): Bahagian 2 - Spesifikasi untuk pembungkusan, Pengenalan Frekuensi Radio (RFID) Pembaca dan Tag• SIRIM / DVS 2: 2014, Syarat-syarat untuk Kebolehkesanan Sarang Burung Mentah Boleh Dimakan (EBN)

Datuk Dr Abu Bakar berkata, MOSTI telah memperuntukkan RM372,000 untuk SIRIM pada tahun ini bagi membantu PKS dalam mewujudkan kualiti dan budaya inovatif ke arah menambahbaik proses dan produk mereka. Pada masa ini, 50 PKS sedang dibantu. "Dengan memberi penekanan yang lebih kepada inovasi, MOSTI menyediakan dana dan sokongan inovasi untuk permulaan dan akreditasi standard, pemindahan teknologi baru dan memudahkan produk R&D untuk dikomersilkan," katanya. 

Presiden & Ketua Eksekutif SIRIM Berhad, Dato' Dr. Zainal Abidin Mohd Yusof dalam ucapannya berkata SIRIM telah mewujudkan beberapa program seperti 5S Hijau dan Pengurusan Perkhidmatan Pelanggan untuk membantu organisasi bagi proses peralihan yang lancar dalam perubahan pengurusan.

"SIRIM Training Services telah memperkenalkan tiga Skim Pensijilan Personel untuk pengamal dalam bidang kualiti. Ini adalah Skim-skim Pengamal Kualiti Bertauliah, Pengurus Kualiti Bertauliah dan Juruaudit Dalaman Utama Bertauliah," katanya.

Untuk melengkapkan pengamal kualiti dan meningkatkan pembangunan modal insan, SIRIM juga mengadakan kerjasama dengan Open University Malaysia dalam menawarkan Sarjana Pengurusan Kualiti untuk tul dan teknik terkini dalam Kualiti dan Amalan Terbaik, katanya. Sidang Kemuncak Kualiti Kebangsaan 2015 (NQS 2015) yang berlangsung pada 13-14 Mei 2015, bertemakan "Tindakan 2015 - Penting bagi Perubahan" memberi peluang kepada organisasi untuk meneroka secara terperinci kepentingan membuat perubahan melalui inisiatif kualiti bagi mengekalkan daya saing dan memudahkan penembusan pasaran global dalam sektor pembuatan, pendidikan dan penjagaan kesihatan. 

Keperluan untuk memupuk keperluan Islam ke dalam amalan pengurusan kualiti organisasi dan menggalakkan nilai-nilai universal yang baik seperti yang ditekankan dalam MS 2300 Sistem Pengurusan Berasaskan Nilai adalah antara isu-isu penting yang dibincangkan dalam sidang kemuncak yang dianjurkan oleh SIRIM Berhad dan anak-anak syarikatnya, SIRIM QAS International dan SIRIM Training Services.

Sebanyak 20 kertas kerja akan dibentangkan pada NQS 2015 oleh penceramah tempatan dan antarabangsa daripada organisasi ternama termasuklah Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia, Hong Kong Quality Function Deployment Association, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia Productivity Corporation, Bermaz Motor Sdn. Bhd, KFC Holdings (Malaysia) Berhad, Putra Perdana Construction Sdn. Bhd., Institut Penyelidikan Keselamatan Jalan Raya (MIROS), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia dan Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja.
