SIRIM inks MoU with QIUP to work on cutting edge research

 IPOH, 29 October 2018: In a move to provide cutting edge research and competent human resource to fulfill the needs of industries in Malaysia, Quest International University Perak (QIUP) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SIRIM Berhad that will see both parties collaborate in the areas of Biotechnology, Engineering, Research & Development and in competency and training.

The MoU, which was signed at the University’s campus in Ipoh, covered objectives such as developing competent, employable pool of talent, setting up industry-relevant state-of–the-art teaching labs, providing Train the Trainer programs, developing training materials, issuance of certificate of competence recognized both by local and international bodies and other areas relating to industry cooperation.

The MoU signatories were Chief Executive Officer of Global Integrated Training Associates (GITA), the holding company of QIUP, Mr. Nicholas Goh and Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology Professor Dr. Vilasini Pillai, while signing on behalf of SIRIM Berhad were Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani, President & Group Chief Executive and Dr. Norlinda binti Mohd Zawawi, Managing Director of SIRIM STS Sdn Bhd.

Mr. Nicholas Goh said the University is proud to form an alliance with SIRIM to work on cutting edge research to spearhead our nations’ development and produce graduates that will be the vital workforce for our nations’ growth.

“We continuously ensure all our programmes’ curriculum delivered is up to date and relevant, and current to industry needs. And today’s partnership with SIRIM is a testament on how QIUP is committed to ensure the best qualifications possible.

“I am also made aware that QIUP is the first and only private University in Malaysia to collaborate with SIRIM. We are indeed proud to be working with an august body like SIRIM. The signing of the MoU today is the meeting of like-minded parties who want to work for the betterment of the nation.

“We at QIUP are confident that the objectives of this MoU will come to fruition in the very near future and be the catalyst in providing cutting edge research and competent human resource to fulfill the needs of industries in Malaysia”, stressed Mr. Goh.

Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad said that research and development and competent workforce are key drivers for the growth of the nation and the MoU with QIUP is in tandem with the aspirations of SIRIM.

“Research and development plays a pivotal role in the continued growth and development of our country. A substantial and vital contribution to Malaysia’s research effort is made by tertiary providers and the role they play is crucial role in the creation and dissemination of knowledge.

“Universities like QIUP contain some of the best brains in the country. They are a great asset to the nation. I am confident that this partnership between QIUP and SIRIM will play a crucial role in the pursuit of an innovative and highly skilled economy and also be the bridge between industry and the knowledge that can make a difference to their success,” added Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Fadzil.

The signing ceremony was attended by about 100 people consisting of staff and students of QIUP and industry leaders in Perak.
