| Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres Part 16: Artificial ventilation for the protection of analyser(s) houses | |
| This Malaysian Standard provides the general principles of protection, by artificial ventilation, of analyser(s) houses against the explosion hazards caused by internal release of flammable substances and, if applicable, against the hazards caused by an external explosive gas atmosphere. It also gives the conditions in which electrical apparatus liable to cause ignition may be used in these analyser(s) houses. These analyser(s) houses may be situated in a hazardous area or in a non-hazardous area. This Malaysian Standard contains recommendations for the construction and operation of analyser(s) houses, for their associated installations, such as air ducts, and for the auxiliary devices necessary for providing and maintaining the conditions for ventilation and, when required, pressure. This Malaysian Standard also specifies the verification and testing necessary to prove that the installation conforms to the above recommendations, and the markings to be placed on such rooms or buildings. NOTES: 1. In certain circumstances, the recommendations may be used for other buildings containing similar sources of release. 2. This standard does not deal with dangers associated with the toxicity of gases and vapours - which may be dealt with by similar techniques. It does not deal with requirements not related to explosion safety. | |

| Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres Part 20: Data for flammable gases and vapours, relating to the use of electrical apparatus | |
| This Malaysian Standard gives guidance on the selection of appropriate electrical apparatus, protected by flame-proof enclosure or designed to be intrinsically safe, according to the gas or vapour in which it is intended to be used. Tables of chemical and engineering properties of substances are provided to assist electrical engineers in their selection of electrical apparatus to be used in hazardous areas. The scope of these data has been selected with particular reference to the use of electrical equipment in hazardous areas, and notice has been taken of standard measurement methods given in IEC-60079-1-1 and MS IEC 60079-4. Users of the data in this Malaysian Standard should be aware that all its data are the result of experimental determinations, and as such are influenced by variation in experimental apparatus and procedures, and in accuracy of instrumentation. In particular, some of the data have been determined at temperatures above ambient temperature, so that the vapour is within the flammable range. Variation in the temperature for the determination would be expected to experimental safe gap decrease with increasing temperature and/or pressure; upper revision and, where more recent information is required, the use of a maintained database is recommended (see Annex A, for information on the availability of maintained databases). NOTES: 1. The data in this Malaysian Standard has been taken from a number of references which are given in the bibliography (see Annex A). 2. Some variations in the data may appear when references are compared, but usually the discrepancy is sufficiently small to be of no importance in the selection of electrical apparatus. | |

| This part of MS IEC 60079 is concerned with the classification of hazardous areas where flammable gas or vapour risks may arise, in order to permit the proper selection and installation of apparatus for use in such hazardous areas. It is intended to be applied where there may be a risk of ignition due to the presence of flammable gas or vapour, mixed with air under normal atmospheric conditions (see note 2), but it does not apply to a)mines susceptible to firedamp; b)the processing and manufacture of explosives; c) areas where a risk may arise due to the presence of ignitable dusts or fibres; d) catastrophic failures which are beyond the concept of abnormality dealt with in this standard (see note 3); e) rooms used for medical purposes; f) areas where the presence of flammable mist may give rise to an unpredictable risk and which require special consideration (see note 5); 9) domestic premises. This standard does not take into account the effects of consequential damage. Definitions and explanations of terms are given together with the main principles and procedures relating to hazardous area classification. For detailed recommendations regarding the extent of the hazardous areas in specific industries or applications, reference may be made to the codes relating to those industries or applications. NOTES: 1. For the purpose of this standard, an area is a three-dimensional region or space. 2. Atmospheric conditions include variations above and below reference levels of 101.3 kPa (1 013 mbar) and 20 °C (293 K), provided that the variations have a negligible effect on the explosion properties of the flammable materials. 3. Catastrophic failure in this context is applied, for example, to the rupture of a process vessel or pipeline and events that are not predictable. 4. In any process plant, irrespective of size, there may be numerous sources of ignition apart from those associated with electrical apparatus. Appropriate precautions will be necessary to ensure safety in this context. This standard may be used with judgement for other ignition sources. 5. Mists may form or be present at the same time as flammable vapours. This may affect the way flammable material disperses and the extent of any hazardous areas. The strict application of area classification for gases and vapours may not be appropriate because the flammability characteristics of mists are not always predictable. Whilst it can be difficult to decide upon the type and extent of zones, the criteria applicable to gases and vapours will, in most cases, give a safe result. However, special consideration should always be given to the danger of ignition of flammable mists. | |

| Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres Part 11: Intrinsic safety I | |
| This part of MS IEC 60079 specifies the construction and testing of intrinsically safe apparatus, intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and for associated apparatus, which is intended for connection to intrinsically safe circuits which enter such atmospheres. It also contains details of the test apparatus previously published as IEC 60079-3. This standard supplements MS IEC 60079-0:1993, the requirements of which apply to intrinsically safe apparatus and to associated apparatus except as indicated in the following list. If associated apparatus is protected by a type of protection listed in IEC 60079-0 then the requirements of that method of protection together with the relevant parts of IEC 60079-0 also apply to the associated apparatus. The list of exclusions which follows is directly applicable to associated apparatus intended for use in situations where there is no potentially explosive atmosphere and in other circumstances should be used in combination with the requirements of the other methods of protection. | |

| Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres Part 14: Electrical installations in hazardous areas (other than mines) | |
| This part of MS IEC 60079 contains the specific requirements for the design, selection and erection of electrical installations in explosive gas atmospheres. These requirements are in addition to the requirements for installations in non-hazardous areas. This standard applies to all electrical equipment and installations in hazardous areas whether permanent, temporary, portable, transportable or hand-held. It applies to installations at all voltages. This standard does not apply to - electrical installations in mines susceptible to firedamp; NOTE. This standard may apply to electrical installations in mines where explosive gas atmospheres other than firedamp may be formed and to electrical installations in the surface installation of mines. - electrical installations in areas where the hazard is due to combustible dusts or fibres; - inherently explosive situations, for example explosives manufacturing and processing; - rooms used for medical purposes. | |

| Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres Part 15: Type of protection n | |
| This part of MS IEC 60079 specifies requirements for the construction, testing and marking for Group 11 electrical apparatus with type of protection "n" intended for use in explosive gas atmospheres. This standard is applicable to non-sparking electrical apparatus and also to electrical apparatus with parts or circuits producing arcs or sparks or having hot surfaces which, if not protected in one of the ways specified in this standard, could be capable of igniting a surrounding explosive gas atmosphere. A non-incendive component is limited in use to the particular circuit for which it has been shown to be non-ignition capable and, therefore, cannot be separately assessed as complying with this standard. Compliance with this standard does not imply any removal of, or lowering of, the requirements of any other standard with which the electrical apparatus complies. This standard supplements, and may enhance, the requirements for apparatus for normal industrial applications. NOTE. This standard makes several specific references to MS IEC 60079-0. It is not intended that apparatus with type of protection "n" should comply with MS IEC 60079-0 in its entirety, or that the level of protection achieved by compliance with this standard should be equal to the level of protection achieved by compliance with MS IEC 60079-0 and any of the types of protection listed therein. | |

| Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres Part 19: Repair and overhaul for apparatus used in explosive atmospheres (other than mines or explosives) | |
| This part of MS IEC 60079: - gives instructions, principally of a technical nature, on the repair, overhaul, reclamation and modification of a certified apparatus designed for use in explosive atmospheres (other then mining applications or explosive processing and manufacture); - is not applicable to maintenance, other than when repair and overhaul cannot be disassociated from maintenance, neither does it give advice on cable entry systems which may require renewal when the apparatus is re-installed; - assumes that good engineering practices are adopted throughout. NOTE. Much of the content of this standard is concerned with the repair and overhaul of electrical rotating machines. This is not because they are the most important items of explosion-protected equipment but rather because they are often major items of repairable capital equipment in which, whatever type of protection is involved, sufficient commonality of construction exists as to make possible more detailed instructions for their repair, overhaul, reclamation or modification. | |
