SIRIM STS Provides Training to seven delegates under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) 2021

SHAH ALAM, 18 August 2021: – International delegates of a five-day Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) 2021 gained insights and knowledge from SIRIM’s experts on Information Technology Service Management System against international standard ISO/IEC 20000-1:2018.

The MTCP programme is a yearly programme funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). A total of seven participants from various countries namely Bhutan, Brunei, Ghana and Iran attended the online training course from 16 – 20 August 2021.

CEO of SIRIM STS, Raja Yahya Raja Ariffin said that the training, managed by SIRIM STS Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of SIRIM Berhad will provide an understanding and implementation of Information Technology Service Management System (IT SMS) against the international standard ISO/IEC 20000-1:2018.

The requirements within the standard includes the design, transition, delivery, and improvement of services to fulfil agreed service requirements.

Raja Yahya said, information resource serves as one of the competitive edges of the contemporary digital world, and organisations must assess the most relevant information for their business and exploit it.

"Such information should be concise with changing business dynamics and technologies. Within the Industry 4.0 era, most services and production of products are supported by IT applications, hence all industries should not exempt themselves from using IT applications within their systems. Therefore, it is crucial for organisations to manage these applications and their IT infrastructure systematically," he added.

The international standard ISO/IEC 20000-1:2018 describes an integrated set of processes and management approach for the effective delivery of IT services to internal or external customers. The standard is not only applicable to service providers, it is even suitable to be used by organisations or relevant departments that are monitoring the IT services provided internally or externally.

Raja Yahya said that SIRIM STS was honoured to realise the Malaysian Government’s aspirations and commitment towards the promotion of technical cooperation among developing countries, strengthening bilateral regional cooperation as well as nurturing collective self-reliance among developing countries.
