SIRIM ASSIST INDUSTRY PLAYERS TO DRIVE MALAYSIA’S AEROSPACE INDUSTRY
SHAH ALAM, 8 JUNE 2022: The Malaysia’s aerospace industry players had gained insights and knowledge on AS9100 a standard on quality management system that could help drive the industry towards global competitiveness at a seminar, on Tuesday.
The Seminar on Aerospace organised by SIRIM STS Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of SIRIM Berhad, discussed on AS9100 standard, a widely adopted quality management system for the aerospace industry.
A total of 90 participants attended the seminar with its objective to
emphasise on how AS9100 could help the aerospace industry manage their risk and
improve their business sustainability.
President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad,
Dato’ Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said,
the government had identified the aerospace industry as a strategic industry which has a wide potential in the country's industrialisation and technological development programmes.
"The aerospace industry generates an annual revenue of RM12.7 billion and employs more than 21,000 skilled workers. Malaysia’s aerospace industry had taken off with the launching of the National Aerospace Blueprint in 1997 and the second blueprint, the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 in 2015," said Ahmad Sabirin.
"The second blueprint has set a vision for Malaysia to be the number one aerospace nation in South-East Asia and as an integral part of the global market by the year 2030 with an annual revenue of RM55.2 billion and create more than 32,000 high income jobs," he added.
To further support the aerospace industry, National Aerospace Industry Coordinating Office (NAICO) was established in August 2015 as a Unit under the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI), with its primary objective of overseeing the implementation of the strategies and initiatives in the Blueprint. NAICO serves as the focal point in linking the aerospace industry players, relevant Government ministries and agencies and academia to collectively work together in strengthening the capability and capacity of Malaysia’s aerospace industry.
According to Ahmad Sabirin, AS9100 as a widely adopted and standardised quality management system for the aerospace industry sets guidelines for implementing a Quality Management System (QMS) for the aviation, space and defence organisations.
"Education and training being part of the Malaysia Aerospace Blueprint 2030, is targeting to supply competent workforce by continuous professional development. SIRIM STS as the training arm of SIRIM Berhad, has the capability to provide reliable training and consulting to organisations in understanding, implementingand complying with AS9100:2016 Rev D," he added.
