"We
have implemented policies that safeguard ethical conduct in everything we do, such as our No Gifts Policy and Anti-Bribery Policy. The No Gifts Policy forbids any SIRIM personnel from giving personal gifts to or receiving special gifts from external parties. This is to guarantee that no potential conflicts of interest occur.
"At the same time, SIRIM’s Anti-Bribery Policy reflects zero-tolerance against all forms of bribery and corruption. The directors, management and staff of SIRIM and its subsidiaries are focused on preventing, monitoring and eliminating corruption in the organisation by complying with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009," he added.
SIRIM implemented
ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management Systems (ABMS) scheme, which safeguards the organisation by equipping it with the necessary tools and knowledge to identify, prevent and respond to bribery risks. In addition, the SIRIM Integrity Section is responsible for monitoring compliance with ABMS and taking the necessary action should violations happen.
As part of its Whistleblowing Policy, channels are provided that enable individuals within and outside the organisation to report incidents of bribery and/or corruption within SIRIM without fear of exposure or reprisal.
Dato’ Dr Ahmad Sabirin also stated that not only are SIRIM staff expected to comply with the organisation’s anti-corruption policies, so too are third parties that perform tasks for or on-behalf of SIRIM to ensure that integrity is practised throughout the value chain.
"Consumers and regulators are assured that any product and service carrying the SIRIM mark has been tested, inspected and certified according to the highest international standards, thus guaranteeing safety and quality.
"The trust and confidence of stakeholders in SIRIM and its subsidiaries is of the utmost importance to us. Therefore, we will continue to ensure that our commitment to integrity and best practices remain unsullied," he affirmed.
