SIRIM BERHAD, AND MIGHT PARTNERSHIP IN ACCELERATING THE SUSTAINABLE, GREEN, AND SMART CITIES AGENDA

 

KUALA LUMPUR, 07 SEPTEMBER 2021: Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SIRIM Berhad and the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) in accelerating Sustainable, Green, and Smart Cities agenda was held virtually today.

 

The MoU aims to drive the nation’s sustainable, green, and smart cities agenda to position Malaysia as a globally competitive and societal-centric powerhouse by 2030. SIRIM Berhad and MIGHT plan to explore strategic areas for Malaysia such as smart manufacturing, green energy, biodegradable product, and many more.

 

The MoU was signed between President & Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, and the President & Chief Executive Officer of MIGHT, Datuk Dr. Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman and witnessed by Tan Sri Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, who is Chairman of both SIRIM Berhad and MIGHT.

 

Datuk Dr. Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman, President & Chief Executive Officer of MIGHT, highlighted that "together with SIRIM, we can offer a unique value proposition for the public and private sectors in promoting the growth of the high technology sector and provide greater emphasis on developing indigenous technology and innovation to transform Malaysia from a technology user to technology creator."

 

"That’s why we are very excited about this refreshed and more structured collaboration. The MOU will integrate our resources and expertise in developing current and future strategic industries and promote sustainable development best practices through science, technology, and industry. Our first customers are the industry players and innovators," he added.

 

President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, said, "The collaboration would provide strategic direction for key stakeholders towards green and sustainability agenda, cutting across key industry sectors in Perak and Melaka."

 

"Through MIGHT, we hope to work with relevant stakeholders and provide consultancy and technical assistance in developing Perak Sustainable Greenprint 2030 document. We will facilitate seven proposed Quick Win projects for industry clusters such as waste, food security, biodegradable, sustainable, and smart cities, biodiversity and environment, green and energy programme, and carbon trading system in the state.

 

"For Melaka, SIRIM will assist MIGHT to develop the Smart Melaka Blueprint 2035 and explore potential technology solutions for smart and sustainable cities based on four pillars namely SMART Governance and Digital Economy; SMART Energy; SMART Mobility; and SMART Living and Security," he said.

 

Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin added, SIRIM is confident that more can be explored together, including the possibility of technology transfer, technology adoption, training and providing technical service for the benefit of the nations and the industries.
