Environmental Performance Assessment Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Organisational & Product Carbon footprint LCA approach evaluates the environmental impact throughout the life cycle stages (i.e. raw material extraction, materials processing, product manufacturing, distribution, use and disposal or recycling) of the product or subject.
The environmental performance results can be used to identify options for environmental improvements, drive eco-design initiatives, to make environmentally-informed decision and market green image and product through eco-labelling. Product and organisational carbon footprint are part of LCA applications focusing on the accounting of greenhouse gas emissions.
Environmental product criteria development is the backbone supporting green certification and eco-labelling. Green product criteria are developed based on life cycle considerations. The compliance towards a set of pre-defined environmentally preferable criteria for a specific product or service will help consumers make purchasing decision based on informed choices.
MYLCID contains Malaysia-specific life cycle inventory results for a wide selection of materials, processes and systems. The database supports the quantification of environmental performance and sustainability assessment based on life cycle assessment concept.
