| Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali was appointed as Chairman of SIRIM Berhad on May 20, 2015. He was previously the Director-General of SIRIM, then known as Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (prior to its corporatisation) from 1989-1996. Currently, Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali is also Chairman of UEM Group Berhad, UEM Sunrise Berhad, Linde Malaysia Holdings Berhad, Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) and Bangi Golf Berhad. He is also a member of the Board of Saudi-Malaysia Water & Electricity Company Limited and Alimtiaz Operation & Maintenance Company Limited, all based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is currently the Joint-Chairman (Industry) of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and Chairman of UPM Holdings Sdn Bhd, SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd, Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM), Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and Malaysia Shoaiba Consortium Sdn Bhd. Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin was previously the Executive Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) - the national power company (1996-2000), the Chairman of Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd (2001-2004), the Energy Commission of Malaysia (2009-2013), the President of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (2010-2016) and later the Chairman of PLUS Expressways International Berhad (2012 – February 2017). An engineer by training, Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin graduated with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from King's College, University of London in 1973 and obtained his doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London in 1977. He did post-doctoral work in nuclear engineering at Oregon State University (1977-1978) and at Pennsylvania State University (1978). He was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2000 and Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in 2008. In 2009, he was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), the Honorary Doctor of Engineering Degree by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) in 2014 and in 2016 he was conferred with the Honorary Doctorate of Management Degree by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, a Senior Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, a Fellow of The Asean Federation of Engineering Organisations and a Fellow of the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology. Currently, Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin is the Pro Chancellor of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and a member of the International Advisory Council of the University. He is also a member of the Public-Private Partnerships under the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia and a member of the Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC). Tan Sri Dr Tajuddin is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UEM and The Nusajaya Natural Heritage Trust and a member of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Khazanah, Mahathir Science Award Foundation, and as an Ordinary Member of Sultan Mizan Antarctica Research Foundation. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), his alma mater. |
