Kuala Lumpur, 21 April 2025: SIRIM Berhad, Malaysia’s national leader in innovation and quality, is seeing strong growth in China, thanks to the close and growing relationship between Malaysia and China. The recent official visit from China to Malaysia (15–17 April) has opened up more opportunities for Malaysian companies like SIRIM to grow in the Chinese market and strengthen its global brand as ‘Your Partner for Innovation.
Under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), SIRIM has worked closely with China's Hunan Pilot Free Trade Zone to reduce technical trade barriers. Through this partnership, over 140 Chinese companies have entered the Malaysian market faster, thanks to shared standards and quicker certification.
One of the key drivers of this success is SIRIM Huasheng, a joint venture between SIRIM QAS International and Hunan SIRIM Huasheng Inspection and Certification Co., Ltd., established to serve as SIRIM’s official marketing and service arm in China. It helps Chinese companies understand and meet Malaysian and ASEAN standards by providing faster, more cost-effective testing, inspection and certification services.
Through this partnership, businesses in China can access SIRIM’s trusted certification process locally, reducing export certification time, lowering costs, and increasing approval rates, making it easier for Chinese products to enter the ASEAN market.
President & Group Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM, Dato’ Indera Ir. Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said, the strong bilateral ties between Malaysia and China have been instrumental in SIRIM’s expansion into the Chinese market. Through strategic initiatives like the RCEP and partnerships such as the Hunan Pilot Free Trade Zone, we are breaking down trade barriers and making it easier for businesses to enter and operate in local markets.
This strategic cooperation has shown result with export certification time has been cut from 3 months to just 1 month, costs have been reduced by 30% and product approval rates have gone up from 60% to 95%. This proves that SIRIM can offer fast, affordable and trusted testing and certification services to international markets.
SIRIM will expand partnerships with more Chinese and global firms, offering one-stop solutions for export, certification and standards compliance. With Malaysia’s government and RCEP support, with strong government support and the RCEP framework, SIRIM is ready to support businesses across Asia and continue its mission as “Your Partner for Innovation”.
