SHAH ALAM, 11 JULY 2024: SIRIM marks yet another milestone with the launch of a new SIRIM Industry Standard, SIRIM 65:2024, Healthy Purification Rating of Refrigerating Appliances for Household and Similar Use - Requirements and Methods of Test in promoting healthier living through advanced refrigeration technology.
The scope of the SIRIM 65:2024 standard is comprehensive, covering refrigerating appliances intended for household use as well as those used in shops, offices, the hospitality industry, and light industries. By setting firm requirements and standardised testing methods, this standard aims to promote healthier living environments through enhanced refrigeration technology.
The establishment of this new standard is a collaboration between SIRIM and Hunan SIRIM Huasheng Certification & Inspection Co., Ltd, and was fully funded by Midea Group (China). This standard is specifically designed to determine rating and evaluation criteria that will provide a clear framework for rating and evaluating the purification effectiveness of these appliances, ensuring consumers have access to reliable and health-centric refrigeration options.
The key benefit of this standard is that it increases a brand’s trustworthiness by giving consumers confidence that the products meet specific safety, quality, and health standards that align with their preferences. This commitment not only sets the brand apart in a competitive market but also positions the brand as a market leader in the industry for the healthy purification of household refrigerating appliances and similar uses.
The standard was launched by the Senior Director of Bilateral Economic & Trade Relations Division, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Nor Hasnah Badroddin. Also present were President and Group Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Indera Ir. Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM Academy, Nik Sazali Nik Hussein, Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM QAS International, Nur Fadhilah Muhammad and President of Midea Group Asia Pacific Region, Zeal Jiang.
Nor Hasnah Badroddin said during her speech that standards have become a strategic tool to address the demanding needs of both domestic and international markets as the world moves towards a borderless economy driven by rapid technological change.
“Aside from addressing safety and interchangeability, standards address the heart of the quality issue, which is a critical element of competitiveness. The ability to compete in global markets is directly linked to standards, which are the passport to entering new markets,” she added.
Dato’ Indera Ir. Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said, SIRIM as a standards development organisation, has extensive expertise in standards research and consultancy which helps industries and businesses meet local and international requirements and practices through the development of industry standards.
“Together with government and industry partners, SIRIM has enabled products and services in Malaysia to gain the recognition they deserve in terms of quality and innovation at the global level.
