This historic agreement brings together two esteemed organisations dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of national standard system in Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. This partnership marks a significant milestone and presents a unique opportunity to boost SIRIM's international business expansion and create opportunities for new and innovative products and services.

The Strategic Cooperation Signing Ceremony between SIRIM Berhad and NISIT was held at the SIRIM Berhad, Shah Alam. SIRIM was represented by its President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Dato' Indera Ir. Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad while NISIT was represented by its Acting Director General, Mr Viktor Gabi. 

Dato' Indera Ir. Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said the aim of the MoU between SIRIM and NISIT is to support standardisation and enhance industrial productivity in Papua New Guinea by providing a range of services such as testing, training, education and technical assistance. This MoU further emphasises SIRIM's commitment to advancing technology transfer and commercialization cooperation to accelerate development outcomes by leveraging our collective resources for the economic benefits of our nations.

“It is my hope that this collaborative alliance will help Papua New Guinea establish a comprehensive National Standards System, ensuring the reliable and sustainable production of quality products and services. This cooperation will, inadvertently, safeguard against unsafe and subpar products, promote measurement and technical standards for commerce and industry in Papua New Guinea, and improve the country's industrial efficiency," he added.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SIRIM Berhad and NISIT has identified seven potential research areas for strategic alliance, including natural sciences, engineering and technology, medical and health sciences, agricultural science, social science and humanities, promoting technology transfer and commercialization cooperation, and other mutually agreed research areas.

The collaboration involves projects related to metrology, research and technology, training, standards and consultancy, accreditation and certification, SME development, and calibration. Currently, more than 13 technical training sessions have been conducted, with two ongoing, focusing on human capital development and standards development.

This partnership between NISIT and SIRIM Berhad represents a significant step towards advancing standards and industrial development in Papua New Guinea. By leveraging their expertise and resources, both organisations are committed to driving positive change, enhancing competitiveness, and contributing to the sustainable growth of Papua New Guinea's economy.
