The two-day conference, with the theme “Quality & Sustainability Through AI-Driven Innovation,” brings together global leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to explore the transformative role of AI in industry and society. It directly supports Malaysia’s ambition, outlined in the National AI Roadmap, to achieve the status of an AI nation by 2030.
The conference was officiated by Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil, Deputy Secretary General (Investment & Management) of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). Also present were Chairman of SIRIM Berhad, Datuk Ir. (Dr) Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi, SIRIM Board of Directors and Encik Nik Sazali Nik Hussin, Acting President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad.
In her opening address, Datuk Bahria said, “I commend SIRIM Berhad for bringing together some of the world’s brightest minds. ICQI 2025 is more than a platform, it is a launchpad for international collaboration, inviting global partners to join us in shaping a future where progress benefits both business and society.”
The event underscored significant national momentum, including RM3.29 billion in approved AI investments in the first half of 2025 alone, projected to create 6,920 jobs. Upcoming initiatives like a RM2 billion Sovereign AI Cloud investment and the establishment of the ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Safety Network (ASEAN AI Safe) headquarters in Malaysia further reinforce this commitment.
“SIRIM’s mandate is clear - to support industries in embedding innovation, quality, and sustainability as core pillars,” said Datuk Ir. (Dr) Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi reiterated SIRIM’s mandate to help industries embed innovation, quality and sustainability at their core. “Through our competencies in standards, certification, and testing, we help companies apply AI-driven solutions to improve productivity and access global markets.”
The conference will feature a keynote address from YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, Malaysia. In a session titled “AI: To Adopt Or To Adapt,” the Minister will delve into the strategic imperatives for Malaysia as it navigates the global artificial intelligence revolution. His address is anticipated to provide crucial insights into national policy direction and the critical balance between adopting established AI technologies and adapting them to drive local innovation and sustainable economic growth.
Running in parallel with the conference is the inaugural International Industry Exhibition (IIE), a premier platform designed to catalyse knowledge exchange and strengthen industrial competitiveness through technology, standards, and innovation. The exhibition directly supports Malaysia's national aspirations for digital transformation and sustainable development by showcasing advanced solutions across high-impact sectors, including AI and Digital Technologies, Green and Sustainable Technologies, Advanced Materials, and Life Sciences. Featuring participation from more than 60 local and international companies, key exhibitors include the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, which will demonstrate digital infrastructure capabilities and Iris Monaliza Enterprise, highlighting its innovative industrial applications.
The event will also witness a key highlight with the formal exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SIRIM QAS International and the Uzbek Center for Scientific Testing and Quality Control. This strategic partnership is designed to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of testing, inspection, and certification services. By fostering the exchange of expertise and aligning standards, this collaboration aims to facilitate smoother market access for industries in both Malaysia and Uzbekistan, strengthening trade relations and promoting a shared commitment to quality and innovation.
