SHAH ALAM, 31 Oct 2022: In ensuring continuous relevance in supporting the national agenda and industrial technology development for the country, SIRIM Industrial Research (SIRIM IR), the research arm of SIRIM Berhad, held its first SIRIM International Industrial Research Advisory Council (IIRAC) on 28 October 2022.
SIRIM IIRAC is a funding, networking and exploration platform to facilitate exchange of concepts, ideas and expertise for SIRIM and members of the advisory council comprise of industry leaders from Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
The annual meeting was organised virtually discussed on advanced technology and digitalisation to increase productivity and efficiency in overcoming global issues related to climate change, renewable energy, medical and healthcare, food security, productivity, logistic and transportation.
SIRIM Berhad President & Group Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Indera Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said IIRAC members play a crucial role in providing advice, strategic guidance and priority setting for the future research direction of SIRIM IR in supporting the global and national research agenda.
“The IIRAC meeting is established not only to foster collaboration among each country but also to provide total solutions to meet the global and local challenges via our technology innovations and commercialisation services.
“The International Advisory Council Members have a significant role as advisors to SIRIM IR on the technology developments that align with the technology trend and market demands,” he added. The establishment of the advisory council is to provide stewardship and recommendations on strategic research and innovation agenda for long term sustainability of SIRIM IR; to share viewpoints on matters including research planning and initiatives that would give a positive impact on the Malaysian industry and society.
At the same time, fostering ties between SIRIM IR and key academics, industry professionals as well as policymakers in the areas of research and innovation in both domestic and international arena, driving the impact of research outputs; linking SIRIM IR to funding opportunities and technological partner of related research and innovation programmes; and to be an advocate for SIRIM IR research and innovation programmes.
