SHAH ALAM, 25 August 2022 : SIRIM Berhad, a leading research and technology agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, today organised the SIRIM-Industry Engagement Programme held here offers various technology applications and services in efforts to enhance the productivity of Selangor industries and entrepreneurs.
More than 300 representatives from government agencies, industry associations as well as local entrepreneurs from various sectors including food & beverage, oil & gas; agriculture; packaging; aerospace; aviation, automotive and cosmetic industry in Selangor attended the half-day programme.
Themed “Bringing SIRIM Closer to Community and Industry", the SIRIM-Industry Engagement programme emphasised the importance of research and development, energy management, quality, trainings, testing and certification.
The programme was graced by SIRIM Berhad Chairman, Tan Sri Ir Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, also present SIRIM Berhad President and Group Chief Executive, Dato' Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad.
Tan Sri Ir Dr Ahmad Tajuddin said, SIRIM a research and technology institution is responsible to promote a culture of research and innovation in this country.
“This is the third SIE organised after Kedah and Sabah, the SIE Programme today received more than 300 entries. Through SIRIM's entrepreneur development programme, a total of 2,704 entrepreneurs and Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) were mentored since 2007 until today, while more than 3,800 products have been successfully improved through the product packaging quality improvement program (Innopack) from 2016 until now," he added.
During the same event, SIRIM made an exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with three agencies namely Petronas, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and National Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Malaysia (NAWEM).
SIRIM and Petronas will collaborate in developing research programme and development of certification technology and standards that include research in biodegradable based on petroleum, plastic and packaging. The MoU will focus on renewable energy such as solar, wind, energy storage, nano material, coral and more.
Meanwhile, MDEC together with SIRIM will bring the transformation of digital programs in industry standards and training. Collaboration is also focused on research and development of the digital economy as well as the development of entrepreneurs.
SIRIM also sees NAWEM's potential as a leader of entrepreneurs in training, entrepreneurship, commercial development, printing and packaging to attract more women entrepreneurs in an effort to develop better quality businesses and productivity.
During the exchange of the MoUs SIRIM was represented by its President and Group Chief Executive, Dato' Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, witnessed by , Tan Sri Ir Dr Ahmad Tajuddin while Petronas was represented by Senior Vice President, Project Delivery and Technology, Bacho B Pilong @ Pelu.
While MDEC was represented by Director of Digital Industry Development, Yvonne Yong Chuan Yin and NAWEM was represented by its President, Sarojini Ruth.
