KUALA LUMPUR, 15 June 2023: SIRIM Berhad, a leading organisation for technology and quality solutions, today launched its Smart Manufacturing Experience Centre (SMEC) as part of the agency’s commitment to driving innovation and empowering businesses to thrive in the era of Industry 4.0.
The state-of-the-art facility, located at SIRIM Bukit Jalil, represents a significant leap forward in the evolution of the manufacturing industry, providing a dynamic platform for industry professionals as well as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to explore and harness the power of smart technologies.
YBhg Datuk Ir. (Dr) Khairol Anuar bin Mohamad Tawi started his career in Jabatan Telekom Malaysia (JTM) in 1983, upon graduation. Datuk Khairol founded KAT Technologies Sdn Bhd in 1994 and became its Executive Chairman, after 14 years of service in various capacity with SAPURA.
SMEC is equipped with cutting-edge tools, intelligent systems, and immersive demonstrations that will enable manufacturers to optimise their operations, enhance productivity, and unlock new levels of efficiency.
President and Group Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Indera Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, said the development of SMEC is aligned with the government's objectives of the National Policy on Industry 4WRD to create the right ecosystem and link it with present and future development initiatives.
"SMEC aspires to be a centre for potential customers to have an immersive experience in a smart manufacturing environment and to embark on Industry 4.0 transformation with the technology offered."
“The centre also aims to establish a one-stop centre for Industry 4.0 technologies; promote SIRIM Smart Manufacturing’s capabilities in championing Industry 4.0 leadership; increase staff competencies in Industry 4.0 technologies; create opportunities for SIRIM Industrial Research to collaborate with industry on research and development for commercial and non-commercial projects in Industry 4.0, as well as provide services and training in the field of Industry 4.0 to the industry, particularly in the manufacturing sector,” he said during the Launching Ceremony of SMEC at SIRIM Bukit Jalil, here.
The programme was officiated by the Secretary General, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, also present, Chairman of SIRIM Berhad, Datuk Ir (Dr) Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi.
SMEC is an initiative by SIRIM Industrial Research that acts as a reference centre for smart manufacturing technology to enable industry players to experience the technology, modernise and transform manufacturing facilities.
Ahmad Sabirin also said the experience centre will offer hands-on experiences to the professional industry, such as additive manufacturing (AM) line for the demonstration of mass customisation experience and production assembly line.
"SMEC will also provide training programmes for the industry mainly eCommerce 4 Smart Manufacturing; Industry Product Design, Analysis and Simulation; Augmented Reality; Introduction to AM; Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI) and IOT; Collaboration Robot (COBOT) Programming; Automation System Blockchain; and Big Data Analytics," he added.
Meanwhile, as part of the development of SMEC, on 14 December 2020, SIRIM Berhad and Hitachi Asia (M) Sdn. Bhd (Hitachi) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The primary objectives of the collaboration were to facilitate knowledge transfer and training from Hitachi engineers to SIRIM engineers, thereby enhancing engineering capabilities and supporting the realisation of Industry 4.0 initiatives

KUALA LUMPUR, 15 Jun 2023: SIRIM Berhad, peneraju dalam penyelesaian teknologi dan kualiti hari ini melancarkan Pusat Pengalaman Pembuatan Pintar (SMEC) sebagai komitmen agensi itu memacu inovasi dan memperkasa perniagaan untuk berkembang maju mencapai era Industri 4.0.
Pusat yang dilengkapi dengan kelengkapan yang terkini itu terletak di SIRIM Bukit Jalil, adalah bukti lonjakan dalam evolusi industri pembuatan, menyediakan platform dinamik bagi industri profesional serta Perusahaan Kecil dan Sederhana (PKS) untuk meneroka dan memanfaatkan kuasa teknologi pintar.
SMEC dilengkapi dengan peralatan canggih, sistem pintar dan demonstrasi mendalam yang akan membolehkan pemain industri mengoptimumkan operasi mereka, meningkatkan produktiviti dan membuka tahap kecekapan baharu.
Presiden dan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Kumpulan SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Indera Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad berkata, pembangunan SMEC adalah sejajar dengan objektif kerajaan dalam Dasar Negara Industri 4WRD untuk mewujudkan ekosistem yang tepat dan menghubungkannya dengan inisiatif pembangunan masa kini dan masa depan.
"SMEC berhasrat untuk menjadi pusat pengalaman kepada pelanggan potensi, mereka akan diberi pengalaman mendalam dalam persekitaran pembuatan pintar serta sebagai langkah permulaan untuk mereka memulakan transformasi Industri 4.0 dengan teknologi yang ditawarkan.
"Pusat ini juga bertujuan untuk mewujudkan pusat sehenti bagi teknologi Industri 4.0; mempromosikan keupayaan Pembuatan Pintar SIRIM dalam memperkasakan Industri 4.0; meningkatkan kecekapan anggota kerja SIRIM dalam teknologi Industri 4.0; mewujudkan peluang bagi Penyelidikan Perindustrian SIRIM untuk bekerjasama dengan industri dalam penyelidikan dan pembangunan bagi projek komersial dan bukan komersial dalam Industri 4.0 serta menyediakan perkhidmatan dan latihan dalam bidang Industri 4.0 kepada industri, khususnya dalam sektor pembuatan," katanya semasa Majlis Pelancaran SMEC di SIRIM Bukit Jalil, di sini.
Majlis tersebut dirasmikan oleh Ketua Setiausaha, Kementerian Pelaburan, Perdagangan dan Industri (MITI), Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, hadir sama Pengerusi SIRIM Berhad, Datuk Ir (Dr) Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi.
SMEC adalah inisiatif di bawah Penyelidikan Perindustrian SIRIM yang akan menjadi pusat rujukan kepada pembuatan teknologi pintar bagi membolehkan pemain industri merasai pengalaman teknologi, memodenkan dan mentrasformasi kemudahan pembuatan.
Ahmad Sabirin juga berkata pusat pengalaman itu akan menawarkan pengalaman langsung kepada industri profesional, seperti barisan pembuatan aditif (AM) untuk demonstrasi pengalaman penyesuaian besar-besaran dan barisan pemasangan pengeluaran.
"SMEC juga akan menyediakan program latihan untuk industri terutamanya eCommerce 4 Smart Manufacturing; Reka Bentuk, Analisis dan Simulasi Produk Industri; Realiti Tambahan; Pengenalan kepada AM; Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI) dan Internet Benda (IOT); Collaboration Robot (COBOT) Programming; Sistem Automasi Blockchain; dan Analisis Data Besar," katanya.
Sementara itu, sebagai sebahagian daripada pembangunan SMEC, pada 14 Disember 2020, SIRIM Berhad dan Hitachi Asia (M) Sdn. Bhd (Hitachi) telah memeterai Memorandum Persefahaman (MoU) dengan objektif untuk memudahkan pemindahan pengetahuan dan latihan daripada jurutera Hitachi kepada jurutera SIRIM bagi meningkatkan keupayaan kejuruteraan dan menyokong merealisasikan inisiatif Industri 4.0.
