SIRIM STS, OUM INKS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING IN PROFESIONAL LEARNING
SHAH ALAM, 27 May 2022: SIRIM STS Sdn Bhd, wholly owned subsidiary of SIRIM Berhad, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Open University Malaysia (OUM) recently to establish strategic cooperation in the field of professional training.
Both parties will develop training modules of certified professional programs; collaborate in selected areas of research as well as hold expertise exchanges and staff development. SIRIM STS will also work with OUM to implement corporate social responsibility activities while conducting synergistic and diverse relationships in higher education and workforce training opportunities.
SIRIM STS will also introduce new areas in addition to the current products between OUM and SIRIM STS, namely certified programs for Facility Management Systems, Lean Management and Halal.
President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said, SIRIM STS and OUM have been working together since 2014 and will continue to work together to provide added value and continuous benefits for both parties.
"This MoU provides an opportunity for SIRIM STS to provide training packages in various courses, especially certified programs.
Meanwhile, OUM as a sustainable university always strives to take various initiatives to complete the excellence program in its institution," he said in his opening speech at the MoU Signing Ceremony, here.
The MoU was signed by President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad and witnessed by Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM STS, Raja Yahya Raja Ariffin. Whereas, OUM was represented by its President/ Vice Chancellor, Associate Professor Dr Ahmad Izanee Awang and witnessed by the Chief Commercial Officer, METEOR Group OUM, Muhammad Nurhadi Zainol.
Dato’ Dr Ahmad Sabirin added, through this strategic alliance, SIRIM STS is able to provide professional recognition to individuals who successfully complete the programs offered.
"It is hoped that this group can develop local expertise in quality practices to meet industry demand as well as support efforts to produce value-added graduates as certified professionals and help the national growth, human capital of local industries to be more competitive globally," he said.
OUM is a leading open learning institution in Malaysia. The consortium-owned university consists of 11 leading public universities in the country, various academic programs are offered and accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
