SIRIM STS, UTM INKS MoU FOR STRATEGIC COLLABORATION IN PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
SIRIM ‘Certified Quality Professional’ Program for Master in Science Industrial Engineering Introduced
SHAH ALAM, 23 Aug 2021: SIRIM Berhad wholly- owned subsidiary, SIRIM STS Sdn Bhd, has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to form a strategic tie in professional trainings.
Through this understanding, both parties will develop training modules on certified professional programme, to collaborate in research as well as staff exchange and upgrading programme. SIRIM STS will also jointly partner with UTM to implement corporate social responsibility activity.
In addition, SIRIM STS will introduce
SIRIM Certified Quality Professional (CQP) program to students in Master in Science Industrial Engineering (MScIE) in UTM, which makes UTM the first public university that offers CQP to its students.
President and Group Chief Executive of SIRIM Berhad, Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad said, SIRIM STS hopes to provide professional recognition to individuals that successfully complete the program.
"It is hoped that this group could further advance local expertise in quality practice to fulfil industry needs," he said during the MoU Signing ceremony held virtually today. Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Sabirin Arshad was representing SIRIM STS, while UTM was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail.
CQP is an employee that is responsible to perform activities related to quality related activities in organisation by applying the principles and quality tools. They are Quality Management reference experts to their workplace who have learned the latest methods in Quality Management and industry best practices.
Dato’ Dr Ahmad Sabirin added UTM-SIRIM STS collaboration will support efforts to produce graduates with added value such as certified professionals and further help the national growth of human capital of local industries to be more competitive globally.
"SIRIM is pleased to collaborate with UTM a university that strives to enhance and strengthen its industrial linkage and has taken various initiatives to enhance its academic and research activities," he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM STS,
YM Raja Yahya Raja Ariffin, said the CQP program will physically starts in October 2021 for three semesters. The program has started virtually since March 2020 and currently a total of 18 MScIE students have been offered to undertake this program.
"The good relationship between UTM and SIRIM STS has been established since 2017 where we were also invited as a member of the industry advisory panel for the Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical-Industrial) Program and the Master of Science (Industrial Engineering) Program of the university. SIRIM STS is also involved in various industry briefing programs organised by UTM," he added.
