Hairil Yahri Yaacob is currently the Deputy Secretary General (Trade) of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia. He holds a Master Degree in Strategy & Diplomacy from National University of Malaysia and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Politics and International Relations from University of Kent at Canterbury, UK.
He joined the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service in 1995, and has been in the Malaysian civil service for over 25 years. He has extensive experience in economics and commerce, public management and social development management, and has held numerous positions throughout his career, including Deputy Secretary General (Investment) at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Counsellor (Economics) at the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland, from 2005-2008 and Minister Counsellor (Economics) at the Embassy of Malaysia, Washington D.C, USA, from 2011-2018.
